PLA(Polylactic Acid) is a polymer plastic made from biological materials such as cornstarch or sugarcane. It is similar to the material used in biodegradable plastic packaging. It melts around 200°C, depending on other materials added to it for color and texture.
Carbon Fibre PLA filament is a composite material formed by infusing tiny fragments of carbon fibre into the PLA polymer base. These fibres are extremely strong and cause the filament to increase in strength and stiffness. This also means that the 3D printed parts will be much lighter and more dimensionally stable, as the fibres will help prevent shrinking of the part as it cools. Print settings, such as printing temperature, speed, bed adhesion, and extrusion rates will be very similar to the normal PLA settings. It also tends to be very abrasive, brass nozzle will be too soft and will quickly wear down, be sure to upgrade to a wear resistant nozzle like one of our hardened steel nozzles in order to print this filament effectively.
Our Carbon Fibre filaments are designed for use with a minimum 0.4mm nozzle and a 0.2mm layer height. To reduce the risk of clogging, we recommend printing at a much slower speed. This helps prevent carbon fibre pieces from accumulating inside the nozzle and causing blockages.
